Last Action Hero is an action-platformer based on the Arnold Schwarzenegger film of the same name. The game takes players through various scenes from the movie, mixing standard side-scrolling beat-em-up action with overhead puzzle-driving segments as protagonist Jack Slater tries to stop the villainous Benedict.

Production Oversight:
Rich Robinson, executive producer at Sony Imagesoft, oversaw the filming of Last Action Hero as well as the development of the game adaptation to ensure consistency between the two.
Studio Collaboration:
Sony's Columbia Pictures, which produced the film, maintained an active interest in the game throughout its development. Initially, the studio provided the various developers with a script for the film to help form the basis of the game, and also supplied promotional stills that served as direct reference material for the game artists.
Gameplay Variety:
Departing from a single genre, the game switches between traditional side-scrolling hand-to-hand combat stages and top-down driving sequences where players navigate traffic while trying to apprehend criminals.
