Hook is a side-scrolling action game based on Steven Spielberg's 1991 film. Developed as a home console conversion of Capcom's arcade beat-'em-up, it places the player in the role of Peter Banning as he navigates the dangers of Neverland to confront Captain Hook. The game is noted for its faithful adaptation of the film’s narrative arc, ranging from the initial confrontation with Rufio to the final showdown on the deck of the Jolly Roger.

TRIVIA

Released on July 17, 1992 (Friday) in Japan at a retail price of 8,500 JPY.

Arcade Heritage:
While it shares the name and basic premise of the Capcom arcade game, the Super Famicom version was developed with a more linear, stage-by-stage platforming focus. It captures the vibrant color palette of the film's set design, effectively utilizing the Super Famicom’s color depth to render the lush, imaginative environments of Neverland.

Stage Depth:
Beyond standard side-scrolling, the developers included non-linear elements in later levels, such as optional paths and secret rooms, which rewarded players for exploring beyond the immediate foreground.

Atmospheric Adaptation:
The game does a commendable job of translating iconic moments from the film into gameplay scenarios, such as the Lost Boys' hideout and the various tropical landscapes of the island, helping it stand out among the many movie tie-ins of the early 90s.
