The Fox M 286 is a highly compact, late-generation Baby AT motherboard manufactured by Octek around 1990. Built to offer a highly efficient and modernized implementation of the IBM PC/AT architecture, it stands out due to its small form factor physical layout and reduced component count. The board is powered by an Intel or AMD 80286 microprocessor (commonly clocked at 12 MHz or 16 MHz, though high-speed Harris 25 MHz variants are supported). It is driven by a highly integrated Headland HT101A (or HT1x series) single-chip core logic controller, which consolidates the entire system control, DMA, and memory interface logic. The expansion layout includes four 16-bit ISA slots and two 8-bit ISA slots. Memory configurations are highly flexible, featuring onboard DIP sockets alongside four 30-pin SIMM slots for easy RAM expansion.

The Late-Era 286 Pinnacle: The Fox M represents the structural transition where 286 boards became incredibly small. By moving away from older multi-chip discrete logic chipsets to a tightly integrated single-chip layout, Octek eliminated long motherboard traces, making the Fox M highly stable and capable of pushing higher bus speeds to compete effectively against budget 386SX platforms.

Native EMS Hardware Support: Thanks to the capabilities of the Headland HT101A/102 chipset, the Fox M features excellent hardware-level Expanded Memory Specification (EMS) management. Using Octek's specialized DOS system drivers, users could map memory above 1 MB into expanded memory blocks without requiring expensive, dedicated hardware expansion expansion cards.
