The Fox II is an optimized Baby AT motherboard manufactured by Octek around 1990 to 1991, serving as the direct successor to the original Fox 286 motherboard series. It features a socketed 80286 microprocessor (commonly utilizing AMD or Harris variants running at stable speeds of 12 MHz or 16 MHz). Built on a streamlined core logic chipset provided by Headland or Chips & Technologies, the Fox II layout includes six 16-bit ISA slots and two 8-bit ISA slots. Memory handling is highly modular, featuring a combination of legacy DIP memory banks and four 30-pin SIMM sockets, allowing users to efficiently scale system memory up to 4 MB or 8 MB depending on the exact component revision.
Advanced Memory Interleaving: The Fox II motherboard logic supports two-way bank memory interleaving. If matching pairs of SIMM or DIP modules are installed, the memory controller alternates read/write cycles between them, effectively masking hardware wait states and increasing raw system memory access speeds.
IPP to SIMM Transition Era: Many hardware revisions of the Fox II board were produced during the physical transition from SIPP (Single In-line Pin Package) to SIMM sockets.
