IBM 3179 (c) 1984 IBM Corp. The IBM 3179 is a color display terminal introduced in 1985 as part of the IBM 3270 terminal family. Unlike most earlier monochrome terminals, the 3179 supports limited color output, allowing improved visual distinction for business applications running on IBM mainframes. It retains full compatibility with the 3270 protocol and is used primarily in enterprise environments for data entry, transaction processing, and host-based applications.
