Sylvan Idyll
You would expect a game named Sylvan Idyll to be a pleasant stroll in the forest. Well, it takes place in the forest, all right, but it’s something less than pleasant. From madly attacking tree-creatures to Hitchcockian birds to nearly indestructible and terribly strong and violent giants, this forest stay is enough to daunt even the staunchest Boy Scout.

Word Up!
Word Up! is Softdisk’s entry into the realm of vocabulary builders. From the early vocabulary game, Gutenberg’s FlashWords, to the Digest’s column, “We’ll Give You Money If You’ll Learn Some Words,” from Double-Dutch to Pig-Latin, from American Sign Language to smoke signals, modern man has always been obsessed with enhancing his communication skills.

Western Vistas
Welcome to Western Vistas, our picture slideshow program for your GS. There have been attempts before, and there will be again, to write programs to display the vaunted 3200-color pictures. All attempts other than our own will pale in comparison to Western Vistas.

Rooster
Wouldn’t it be nice if starting up was interesting? Rooster allows you to customize the sound you hear when your Apple IIGS starts up. Using Rooster you can set either a specific sound or a random selection from several sounds to play each time you start your Apple IIGS. Rooster allows you to have unique settings for each day of the week.

AppleWorks GS
Loan Analyzer: With the recession dragging on for the indefinite future, managing the money that we do have makes a lot of sense. Arriving on the scene just in time to save the day is the new AWGS Loan Analyzer. Now you can use your computer to help you make those tough financial decisions.

Spencer’s Corner
Thanksgiving: What we do mostly on American holidays is eat. Thanksgiving, the premiere example of this propensity, tops everything. You might think from the food items I’ve chosen to include in this month’s graphic that I’m a vegetarian. I’m no vegetarian, understand. I’ve just learned more respect for turkeys than some folks have.

Clip Art
Egyptian: Sarcophagi. Pharaohs. Hieroglyphics. Papyrus. The Crowns of the Old and New Kingdoms. Pyramids. The Sphinx. Temples. Hatshepsut. These things all call forth images of ancient Egypt. But they’re not the images we’re bringing you. Doris Regner has found a way to evoke the spirit of Egypt without resorting to any of these pathetic, tired clichés. No pyramids. No bas-reliefs. No cartouches. Just an assortment of images that, for some undefinable reason, appear to be Egyptian.

Font
Jonathan: What Jonathan lacks in readability it makes up in classiness. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a spattering of Jonathan at the top of articles in the Atlantic. Now, that’s class! If you want to make a classy newsletter... If you want to impress your friends... If you want ANYONE to pay any attention to you at all, you gotta do some Jonathan headlines.
