Caverns of Zoarre © 1984 Hanlin III, Thomas
Early ASCII based RPG. The actual graphics are limited to a very small segment of the upper left screen, the rest of the information is presented in text. No enemies nor objects appear on the graphics side, you know about them from the text.
Upon start, you would pick a name for your character and roll for stats. Stats are randomized on every play and you can reroll until you find what you want.
The maps are fixed but the enemies are randomized. The game is quite difficult, as monsters tend to be rather tough.
Designed for MS-DOS.
Operates in 640x400 resolution, monochromatic.
Can run on a machine as low as the XT.
Released as a freeware game, but included information on the title screen of the author who asked for $25 donations if you enjoyed the game.
