(Idol Hotline - Nakayama Miho no Tokimeki High School)
Nakayama Miho no Tokimeki High School was probably one of the first simulation, or more precisely, dating simulation title to hit the video game market. The player takes control of a young high school boy whose goal is to go out with his dream girl. And the game has an interesting twist : the player would try to go out with the girl that every Japanese teenager would like to date back in the 80's : Nakayama Miho. This name is of course totally unknown in the west, but she was a very popular Japanese pop idol in the 80's (Aidoru in Japanese ). The game starts at the end of a class and the player bumps into a cute girl wearing glasses called Mizuho. She accidentally drops a personal item and the hero naturally decides to pick it up and gives it back to her. But here he is stunned by her resemblance with Nakayama Miho, his dream girl. Then later on, the boy meets his brother who shows him a picture of the real Miho it took earlier on. But, oh surprise, what does he see there ? the same personal item is also on the photograph ! She has to be the real Miho ! A good knowledge of the Japanese language is necessary to enjoy the game in full, choice are varied and deeply influence the game. Real phone numbers were included with the game and gave the player the opportunity to receive advice but also to hear Nakayama Miho's real voice !
Nakayama Miho no Tokimeki High School was released on December 01, 1987 in Japan for 3500 Yen. This game was one of the game released by Nintendo on a blue disk. Like the other titles of the series, it was part of a contest and meant to be loaded onto a Disk Fax machine. The game's documentation mentions that the contest started on December 19th 1987 and ended on February 29th 1988. The players who entered the contest and were lucky enough to be picked up won an autographed phonecard or a special VHS tape. (Nintendo picked up 16000 winners - 8000 phonecards and 8000 videotapes).
Nakayama Miho was a Japanese Pop idol in the 80s. She is one of the few idols who managed to build a second career as an actress. She made her debuts when she was 15 in the movie Be-bop High School (Based on the manga/anime) in 1985.
