Gaia No Monshou is a simple round based strategy game by NCS. The light and dark forces are at war and at the beginning of the game, players have to choose between the side of the light, supposedly good, and the dark side, supposedly bad. Each units of troops are distributed around a battlefield and following round-based maneuvers, players move one unit at the time and attack nearby enemies. An Auto Battle mode is also available and give players the possibility to let the PC Engine figure out their next move. The game offers a first scenario mode where players battle predefined battles, with 'ready to go' armies and battlefields. A second construction mode allows them to buy units (using unit points) and build their own armies. The last option is a Campaign mode where players also build their own army from scratch but battle following the game's story and starts in the siege town of Dirl where King Jikuharuto (Sieghart) from the light fights King Bozeru from the dark side. Unlike other modes, the player's progression can be saved using a password system. The game offers a rich variation of fantasy creatures to choose from such as knights, griffins, sea monsters but also all sort of catapults and modern vehicles like helicopters or tanks.
