Skip to hi-score:
At the title screen, hold Left, then press Select to skip to the hi-score display immediately without need to wait.

Continue:
Enter the Options menu, put cursor to the EXIT option and press Left 40 times until you hear a sound. Now, instead of game over during the game you'll get to the Continue menu. Continues are unlimited.
