Zelda no Densetsu was released on November 21, 1991 in Japan for 8000 Yen.

Localization & Censorship: While the Japanese subtitle translates literally to The Tri-Force of the Gods, Nintendo of America removed all overt religious references to comply with their internal content guidelines at the time. This resulted in the title change to A Link to the Past and the renaming of the "Priest" (Agahnim) to a "Wizard."

The World-Switching Mechanic: The game’s defining feature was the "Light World" and Dark World duality. This allowed the developers to effectively double the playable world size and create complex environmental puzzles where actions taken in one realm immediately impacted the layout or accessibility of the other.

Defining the Genre: Many of the conventions established in this entry—such as the heart-piece collection system, the hookshot, the master sword, and the focus on dungeon-based progression—became the rigid standard for the Zelda series for the next two decades.
