Actual Entry (non editable)
The Combatribes (c) 1992 Technos Japan Corp. The Combatribes is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up conversion of their 1990 arcade title. Set in a dystopian New York City, players control a trio of vigilantesâBerserk, Bullova, and Blitzâas they fight to dismantle local gangs led by the cyborg Martha Splatterhead. The console port preserves the visceral, wrestling-inspired combat mechanics of the arcade original while introducing an expansive, console-exclusive Versus mode that shifts the gameplay dynamics significantly. - TECHNICAL - GAME ID: SHVC-CR - TRIVIA - The Combatribes was released on December 23, 1992 in Japan at a retail price of 9,300 JPY. While the game draws heavily from its 1990 arcade roots, the home console conversion required significant architectural changes. Arcade vs. Console Differences: The conversion features several notable departures from the arcade original: - Health System: The arcade version utilized a coin-based health system (inserting coins purchased more health), whereas the Super Famicom version implements a traditional health bar. - Interactive Objects: The arcade original allowed players to pick up large environmental items (like bikes and pinball machines) to use as weapons, a feature absent in the home port. - Stage Design: Level layouts were modified for the home release; for example, the "Clown" area boss fight was moved from a scaffolding tower, and the third-stage club was simplified from a two-floor layout. Character Stats: There are discrepancies between versionsâthe character known as "Berserk" in the Super Famicom version was originally named "Berserker" in the arcade, and the trio displays different statistical balancing to suit the home console's pacing. Multiplayer Dynamics: The arcade version featured a special cabinet that supported simultaneous play for up to three players. Due to the Super Famicom's hardware limitations, the home release is capped at two-player simultaneous action. Console-Exclusive Mode: To compensate for the loss of arcade-specific features, Technos included a dedicated Versus mode with unique mechanics, such as fireball projectiles and a manual block button assigned to the shoulder buttons, not present in the arcade game. Export releases: [US] "The Combatribes [Model SNS-CR-USA]" - TIPS AND TRICKS - Thirty credits -------------- Hold L + R + Select on controller two and reset the game. Release the buttons at the title screen. The credits may now be set to a maximum of thirty from the options screen. Ten credits ----------- Hold X + A + L on controller two and reset the game.
