Sansara Naga 2 is a beautifully unconventional role-playing game that serves as the sequel to the cult-classic 1990 Famicom original. Developed by Open System, the game blends traditional turn-based JRPG structures with elements of Hindu cosmology and a deep, centerpiece dragon-rearing simulation mechanic.

Set in a surreal world divided into layers of cyclical existence, players take on the role of a young Dragon Knight (selectable as male or female). Alongside an eclectic cast of companions, you embark on a philosophical, often satirically humorous journey across the world's stratified layers, tracking down a rogue mentor while raising a newborn dragon from an egg into an absolute engine of destruction.

TRIVIA

Released on July 15, 1994 in Japan.

The Creative Powerhouse Pedigree: The game's distinct identity is the result of a legendary creative collaboration. The worldview, setting, and deeply satirical script were penned by acclaimed anime director and writer Mamoru Oshii (famed director of Ghost in the Shell and Patlabor). This narrative depth is underscored by a sprawling, emotionally resonant soundtrack composed by the iconic Kenji Kawai.

The Diet-Driven Dragon Evolution: Rather than the player leveling up through traditional experience points, the protagonist's stats remain largely static. Instead, combat capability relies almost entirely on your companion dragon. The dragon grows and mutates its stats based entirely on a metabolic diet mechanic: players must feed it the carcasses of defeated monsters or specialized vendor food, directly steering its alignment, breath weapons, and physical form.

Distinct Character Design Philosophy: The highly expressive, large-eyed character art and visual direction were handled by manga artist Kenjiro Kawatsu. The game was marketed with dual package variants to reflect the player's choice of gender at the start of the adventure, a unique packaging strategy for Super Famicom RPGs of the era.
