Chou Makai Taisen! Dorabocchan is a vibrant action-adventure title published by Naxat Soft and developed by Red Company. Serving as a sequel to the PC Engine’s Makai Prince Dorabocchan, the game follows the young vampire Dorabo on a quest to liberate his world from an invading zombie army led by the greedy King Dorakiraya. Featuring a distinct "cute" aesthetic, the game blends traditional action-platforming with light RPG elements, including experience-based leveling, weapon upgrades, and a versatile magic card system.

TRIVIA

Released on March 18, 1993 (Thursday) in Japan for 8,800 JPY.

Unique Life System: The player's health is represented by tomatoes rather than a standard bar or heart meter. A "Large Tomato" is rewarded to the player whenever Dorabo levels up, effectively increasing his maximum HP.

Combat Mechanics: Dorabo’s primary weapons are his cape and hat. These can be upgraded throughout the game, evolving from simple melee strikes into ranged projectiles and spectacular magical attacks like lightning bolts.

Magic Card System: Unlike its predecessor, this title introduces a card-based magic system. Players can purchase or scavenge cards (Fire, Healing, Teleport, Invisibility) to cast spells, adding a strategic layer to the combat encounters.

AI Partner System: During the game, Dorabo is often accompanied by an AI-controlled partner. This character can assist in combat by attacking enemies but is invulnerable to damage. Notably, the partner is not always efficient at pathfinding and can occasionally be obstructed by environmental terrain.

Narrative Context: The plot centers on a geopolitical conflict between island kingdoms, where the seemingly antagonistic King Dorakiraya is revealed to be under the influence of the entity Von Hesler, a common trope in the series' lighthearted narrative style.
