Turbo Out Run is the home conversion of Sega's 1989 arcade sequel to the legendary driving game Out Run. Piloting a high-performance Ferrari F40 across the continental United States from New York to Los Angeles, players must race against the clock and rival drivers while managing weather hazards, police interference, and a newly introduced turbo-boost engine mechanic.
GAME ID: G-4053
The Evolution of the Road Trip:
Unlike the branching path structure of the original Out Run, Turbo Out Run introduced a linear checkpoint system spanning 16 distinct stages across America, complete with mandatory pit stops to upgrade engine power, tires, and turbo capabilities.
Arcade Hardware Translation:
Bringing the scaled sprite engine of Sega's custom arcade hardware to the 16-bit Mega Drive, the port successfully captured the blistering sense of speed and vibrant roadside scenery of the coin-op sequel.
