Abarenbou Tengu was released on December 14, 1990 (Friday) in Japan.

The original title during development was "Jitsuroku Munen no Namakubi" (lit. "The True Story of the Grudge-Bearing Severed Head"). It was supposed to read like some sensational news headline. They only changed the title at the very, very last moment, after Nintendo told them that using a severed head was not allowed.

TIPS AND TRICKS

ROUND SELECT:
Turn on the game and Reset the game 25 times. Then at the title screen press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right and Start. If done right, a stage select menu should appear.

INVINCIBLE:
Turn on the game and Reset the game 77 times. Then while playing, pause the game and press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A and Start. If done right, you'll be invincible.

SOUND TEST:
Hold Up + A + B, then hit Reset on system (at anytime in game).
