The ASUS CUSC is a highly integrated, proprietary FlexATX motherboard engineered by ASUS specifically to power their early-2000s Terminator P-III small form factor (SFF) barebone desktop series. Built around Intel's Socket 370 infrastructure, the board is entirely driven by the SiS 630 single-chip highly-integrated multimedia architecture. It accommodates Intel Pentium III (Coppermine / Coppermine-T) and Intel Celeron microprocessors running on Front-Side Bus speeds of 66 MHz, 100 MHz, or 133 MHz. Due to its ultra-compact enclosure restrictions, the board focuses heavily on integrated logic, packing an onboard SiS 300-based 128-bit 2D/3D graphics engine, SiS 7018 PCI audio hardware, and a SiS 7016 10/100 Ethernet adapter directly on the PCB traces. Physical expansion is deliberately minimalist, offering two 32-bit PCI slots and one AMR (Audio Modem Riser) slot, alongside two 168-pin SDRAM DIMM sockets supporting up to 1 GB of system memory.
The Barebone SFF Pioneer: Long before the modern "ASUS ROG" mini-PCs or standard ITX cubes took over the gaming market, the Terminator P-III represented ASUS’s early, aggressive push into the consumer barebone desktop space. Sold as a sleek, metallic mini-tower bundle containing the chassis, power supply, and custom CUSC mainboard, it allowed users to construct a full-fledged Pentium III system that occupied half the physical footprint of a standard beige mid-tower.
The Single-Chip Hybrid: The SiS 630 core logic found on the CUSC motherboard was highly advanced for its time because it integrated the Northbridge, Southbridge, 3D AGP Graphics, Audio, Fast Ethernet, and the Super I/O controller into a single, high-density silicon die. This design dramatically lowered heat output, power consumption, and production costs, though performance-oriented power users often noted that its integrated graphics shared system memory, reducing absolute bandwidth compared to discrete Intel 815 or VIA systems.
