Actual Entry (non editable)
AB-AV4 (c) 199? Abit The AB-AV4 was marketed as a highly cost-effective 486 PCI solution. Unlike the P-series (PB4/PV4/PM4/PI4), which were premium boards aimed at power users, the AV4 was designed for system integrators and the "white-box" retail market. It offered the essential features of the time (PCI bus, Socket 3, ZIF socket) without the high cost of premium L2 cache designs or the complex jumper-heavy voltage regulators found on the P-series boards. - TECHNICAL - Chipset: VIA 82C496 (North) / 82C497 (South). CPU Support: Socket 3. Supports all standard 486 variants (SX, DX, DX2, DX4). Note: While it supports the Am5x86, it often lacks the voltage regulation granularity to push it to the high speeds achievable on the P-series. Expansion: 3x PCI slots, 4x ISA slots. Memory: 4x 72-pin SIMM sockets (typically FPM or early EDO). Form Factor: Baby AT. Cache: Usually soldered or non-expandable 128KB/256KB. - SOURCES - Machine's Bios.
