Jurassic Park Part 2: The Chaos Continues marks a dramatic departure from its predecessor. Developed internally by Ocean Software, this entry abandons the top-down, exploration-heavy design of the first game in favor of a fast-paced, side-scrolling run-and-gun action format. Players control Dr. Alan Grant and a tactical specialist named Michael Wolfskin as they defend Isla Nublar from the rival genetics corporation, Biosyn, which has invaded the ruined park to steal InGen's research.

TRIVIA

Genre Shift & Co-Op:
Functioning much more like the Contra series, the game emphasizes heavy firepower and platforming, offering a simultaneous two-player cooperative mode that was highly praised for its intense action.

The Conservation Mechanic
A highly unique feature for a 16-bit shooter is the "dinosaur population" counter. Players are penalized for killing dinosaurs with lethal force; if the population drops to zero, it results in an immediate game over. This forces players to constantly toggle between lethal weapons (such as machine guns and shotguns) for the Biosyn mercenaries, and non-lethal weapons (like stun guns, tranquilizers, and gas grenades) for the dinosaurs.

Original Narrative:
Rather than adapting Michael Crichton's sequel novel The Lost World (which was published in 1995), Ocean conceptualized a completely original, non-canon storyline centered entirely on corporate espionage and military conflict.
