Captain Novolin is a rare "edutainment" platformer. Like Bronkie the Bronchiasaurus, the game was designed to serve a clinical purpose: teaching children with Type 1 diabetes about the importance of managing their blood glucose levels and recognizing the symptoms of hypoglycemia.

Description from the Back cover:
Aliens disguised as sugary foods have captured the mayor of Pineville, and it's up to Captain Novolin to rescue him! Leaping maniac donuts and dodging ice cream blobs, Captain Novolin must save Mayor Gooden while managing his diabetes with a good diet, insulin, and exercise. It's an action-packed adventure that teaches you about diabetes management!

TRIVIA

Released in November 1992 in the USA.

Clinical Objectives:
The game features Captain Novolin, a superhero fighting against "Blop," a villain made of sugary foods. Throughout the game, the player must collect healthy food items while avoiding bad snacks and monitor the Captain's blood sugar levels to prevent hyperglycemic or hypoglycemic episodes.

Unique Educational Loop:
The narrative serves as an interactive lesson on insulin management. If the player's blood sugar drops too low, they must find a source of carbohydrates—like orange juice or glucose tablets—to recover, reinforcing the real-world daily challenges faced by diabetic children.

The "Raya Systems" Legacy:
Raya Systems was pioneering in the use of video games as medical education tools. These titles are often cited by collectors as some of the most difficult to find in complete condition, as they were rarely distributed through traditional retail channels and were often restricted to clinics and educational settings.
