SD Gundam Gaiden 2: Entaku no Kishi (Knights of the Round Table) is a traditional turn-based role-playing game. Part of the popular Knight Gundam sub-franchise, this entry completely removes the mobile suits from their traditional sci-fi cosmic settings, re-imagining them as literal medieval knights, mages, and kings in a fantasy world heavily inspired by Arthurian legend.
Players control Crown Knight Gundam (inspired by the RX-78GP01 Fb Gundam Zephyranthes) as he journeys across the kingdom of Britannia to recruit the legendary 12 Knights of the Round Table, overthrow the tyrannical Zabi Empire, and reclaim his rightful throne.
GAME ID: SHVC-EN
Specifications: The title utilizes an early 8-megabit cartridge equipped with battery-backed SRAM.
The Carddass Connection: Like its Famicom and Super Famicom predecessors, the world design and lore of Entaku no Kishi are directly adapted from Bandai's incredibly successful vending-machine Carddass trading card sets. The game functions as an interactive adaptation of these cards, capturing the imaginations of domestic collectors who spent years trading the physical armor variations.
Massive Party Scalability: One of the game's most impressive structural feats is its large party system. While traditional 16-bit RPGs limit your active battle screen to 3 or 4 heroes, Entaku no Kishi allows up to multi-character combat deployment, filling out empty roster blocks on your user interface layout as you locate and recruit the missing members of the Round Table.
Tactical Action Commands: Battles are viewed from a front-facing perspective reminiscent of Dragon Quest, but with fully animated character portrait cards. The combat loop features automated strategy toggles alongside standard input menus, allowing players to assign loose tactical roles to their massive party to speed up random grid encounters.
The Yutaka Publishing Brand: Yutaka was primarily utilized by Bandai to manage specialized character goods and low-to-mid budget video game adaptations of licensed properties on Nintendo platforms. This entry stands out as one of their most polished and mechanically sound role-playing efforts on the Super Famicom.
