Ranma ½: Akanekodan Teki Hihou ("Treasure of the Red Cat Gang") marks a significant departure for the franchise on the console. While previous entries focused on the fighting game genre, this title is a traditional, turn-based RPG. Developed by Atelier Double (often credited as Rumic Soft), the game tasks Ranma with assembling a party of allies to rescue his father, Genma, from a criminal organization known as the "Red Cat Gang" (Akanekodan) before they can uncover a legendary treasure.

Genre Evolution: This was the first Ranma ½ game for the Super Famicom to move away from the fighting genre. It utilized a top-down, turn-based RPG structure that allowed for a deeper exploration of the Ranma world, including various villages, dungeons, and character-driven side quests that were impossible to fit into the fighting-game format.
The 'Cursed' Mechanic: A central feature of the RPG gameplay is the integration of the series’ signature "Jusenkyo" curse. Almost every playable character has a cursed form, and the game allows the party to utilize these transformations during combat, which can alter character statistics and ability sets.
Party Diversity: Unlike the singular focus of the fighting games, Akanekodan Teki Hihou features a robust party system. Players can recruit various allies—including Akane, Shampoo, Mousse, and others—each with unique healing or offensive techniques, requiring players to balance their team composition for different boss encounters.
