Knights of the Round is a direct home console port of the 1991 arcade beat-'em-up. Set in a fantasy interpretation of Arthurian legend, the game tasks players with traversing seven stages of medieval combat. Unlike many contemporary beat-'em-ups, it features a unique leveling system where characters gain strength, defense, and visual equipment upgrades as they accumulate experience points, blending classic scrolling action with light RPG progression elements.

TRIVIA

The RPG Beat-'Em-Up: Knights of the Round is notable for being one of the first action titles to integrate an experience-based leveling system. Characters (Arthur, Lancelot, and Percival) do not just get new moves; they physically change appearance as they reach higher levels, gaining more ornate armor and weapons.

Combat Mechanics: The game introduced a "guard" system, which allowed players to block incoming attacks with precise timing. Mastering this block maneuver is essential for navigating the game's later stages, where enemies become significantly more aggressive.

The Capcom Arcade Port: As a premier Capcom title, the home version was highly anticipated. It retains the cooperative 2-player local play that made the arcade version a staple of the era, bringing the intense, high-fantasy spectacle of fighting through waves of knights, dragons, and sorcerers to the Super Famicom.
