TRIVIA

Released on March 18, 1994 in Japan.

Virtua Racing was the first and only game that runs on the SVP, the Sega Virtua Processor. Two other games, Virtua Fighter and Daytona USA, were planned for the SVP chip, but were instead moved into the Saturn's launch line-up.

Sega planned to sell the SVP chip as a separate upgrade module for the Mega Drive but it was canceled.

Virtua Racing was also the most expensive Mega Drive cartridge ever produced.

The game renders 9,000 polygons per second with the SVP chip, significantly higher than what the standard Mega Drive hardware is capable of. The game runs at around 15 frames per second.

TIPS AND TRICKS

MIRROR TRACKS, THE CODE:
When the Sega logo appears on the screen, hold A+B+Up, then add and hold Start until the demo screen comes up. Now, release all buttons and press Start again to get the 'Mode Select' screen, in which you will find a new option that shows the words 'Virtua Racing' backward.

UNLOCK MIRROR TRACKS:
Finish every course in first place in the Virtua Racing mode, on either the normal or hard difficulty level. After you have done this, go to the main menu screen and a new icon will be available which has Virtua Racing written backwards on it. Select this icon to race on mirroed tracks.

QUIT A COURSE:
To quit a course, pause the game and press A+B+C at the same time.

REAL END:
To see the full credits sequence, set the game difficulty to hard and then race on any track and finish in first place to see the best ending.
