Garou Densetsu was the console's introduction to the long-running SNK fighting franchise. Set in the gritty streets of Southtown, players take control of Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, or Joe Higashi on a quest to topple the criminal empire of the sinister Geese Howard. While it brings the Fatal Fury aesthetic to the 16-bit home experience, this version makes significant mechanical adjustments to the arcade original to fit the hardware's constraints.

TRIVIA

Garou Densetsu for SFC was released one year after the original on November 27, 1992 (Friday) in Japan.

Mechanical Simplification: In a notable departure from the arcade iteration, this version discards the series' signature multi-plane combat system in favor of a traditional single-plane fight. This change significantly altered the game's tactical flow compared to the original arcade release.

Mode & Feature Adjustments: The Super Famicom port notably removes the two-on-one combat scenarios found in the arcade. Furthermore, the original arm-wrestling bonus stage was replaced with a reaction-based mini-game requiring the player to strike falling tires on a beach.

Expanded Versus Capabilities: To bolster the home console experience, the Street Fight mode allows players to select the same character (e.g., Terry vs. Terry), with the second player automatically assigned an alternate color palette. Additionally, this mode enables player-controlled access to all enemy characters, including the final boss, Geese Howard, which was a significant feature for fans at the time.
