An influential mid-to-late 1980s IBM PC/XT compatible desktop computer. Developed as Hyundai's baseline high-compatibility XT offering, the motherboard features an early revision layout populated by discrete 82xx / 82Cxx communication controllers and standard peripheral logic instead of the single-chip integrated ASICs used in later models. It is driven by an Intel 8088-II (or AMD equivalent) microprocessor capable of switching between the standard IBM PC standard 4.77 MHz clock rate and an accelerated 8 MHz Turbo speed, toggleable via the Ctrl+Alt+Enter hotkey structure. The motherboard natively integrates an onboard floppy disk controller and a Real-Time Clock (RTC) module with physical battery backup. It includes six 8-bit ISA expansion slots and supports up to 640 KB of Fast Page Mode conventional RAM directly routed on the main system board.
The Discrete Chipset Layout: Unlike the later Super 16TE or 16TM revisions which consolidated system pathways into a dense Texas Instruments TACT or UMC core logic solution, the original Super 16 T architecture relies heavily on classic individual component chips. This pure, old-school layout makes it an absolute favorite among modern retro-hardware collectors for its historical accuracy and ease of component-level diagnostic repair.
True 8 MHz Compatibility: While many generic third-party turbo clone boards pushed timing margins to unstable limits, Hyundai engineered the Super 16 T to strictly adhere to standard 8 MHz constraints. This precise frequency alignment ensured 100% stable execution with early MFM hard drive controllers (like the Western Digital or Seagate ST-225 cards) and the highly popular internal Hyundai EGA graphics setups without experiencing data corruption.
