The Quasimidi Rave-O-Lution 309 was one of the earliest dedicated grooveboxes, combining a drum machine, bass synthesizer, polyphonic synthesizer, sequencer, and real-time performance controls in a single unit. It was designed specifically for techno, trance, rave, and electronic dance music production. Unlike traditional workstations, the 309 focused on pattern-based composition and live performance, making it a pioneering instrument in the groovebox category.

The Rave-O-Lution 309 is widely regarded as Quasimidi's most influential product.
It predates many later groovebox classics and helped define the category.
Its workflow influenced later instruments such as the Roland MC-303, Roland MC-505, and Korg Electribe.
The machine became especially popular in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and the UK techno scenes.
Unlike many ROMplers of the era, the 309 was intentionally designed around electronic dance music rather than acoustic realism.
Many producers still praise its aggressive filters and instantly recognizable 1990s rave sound.
The later Quasimidi Sirius can be viewed as a keyboard-based evolution of ideas first explored in the 309.
