Paprium is the second game, after Virtua Racing, to boast its own acceleration chip. This chip, DT128M16VA1LT aka DATENMEISTER, was developed in-house and is used by paprium primary as an audio chip and adds extra audio channels for both music and SFX.
The game cartridge is compatible with any original Mega Drive/Genesis game system (PAL or NTSC). The game is in English, Japanese, French, Spanish, Portuguese and German.
With any cartridge version (US, Japan, Euro), if you play on a Japanese console, there are some additional features like the hits combo display and the stage music display.
With a Japanese version of the cartridge, on any console version, you'll have access to these features too.
Codenamed 'ProjectY'. Paprium has been crafted at WatermMelon's Magical Game Factory using Investor's votes and suggestions.
Released on December 16, 2020 after 7 years of development (started in 2013).
The game pushes the hardware to extreme limits. A maximum of 144 sprites can be displayed at the same time ingame, but it flashes from 94.
The French famous band Daft punk should have composed one or more music for the game, but it didn't happen.
According to the main author:
- zoom effects on some sprites has been added in 2018.
- the mini vaporware at the beginning of the first start of the cartridge was made in 4 hours (codes, graphics, musics).
- the game code was re-written three times.
Last two default arcade scores in the highscore table are 5345 and 4741. 0x53454741 is the hex code to spell SEGA.
The official trailer for the game has been made in 2016 or 2017 in China.
