The MS-4125 is an early-generation, pure-ISA 80486 Baby AT motherboard engineered and manufactured by Micro-Star International (MSI) around 1991 to 1992. Built as a high-reliability platform for corporate and industrial computing, the board eschews local-bus shortcuts to focus on rock-solid bus integrity using the Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) 85C406 core logic chipset. The mainboard hosts a 237-pin Socket 3 (or early 168-pin PGA) footprint for Intel i486DX and DX2 processors operating at synchronous Front-Side Bus (FSB) speeds of 25 MHz or 33 MHz. Its peripheral expansion environment is entirely limited to the 16-bit ISA standard, providing eight ISA slots—a design choice prioritizing heavy-duty I/O and server-grade stability over graphical throughput. System memory utilizes eight 30-pin SIMM sockets supporting up to 32 MB of Fast Page Mode (FPM) DRAM, complemented by an onboard DIP socketed L2 secondary static cache (SRAM) array configurable from 64 KB up to 256 KB.

The "No-Nonsense" Server Platform: In 1991, the VESA Local Bus had not yet become a standard, and many engineers viewed local-bus graphics as a source of electrical noise and data corruption. MSI designed the MS-4125 for users who prioritized "Zero-Fault" data integrity over frame rates. By keeping the board strictly ISA-bus-only, the electrical signaling was much cleaner, making this board a favorite for early Novell NetWare servers where crashing because of a noisy graphics card was simply not an option.

Memory Banking Rigidity: Because the SiS 85C406 chipset requires a full 32-bit data path and the board utilizes 30-pin SIMMs (which are 8-bit wide), the MS-4125 requires memory to be installed in strict "banks" of four. This meant users couldn't simply add 1 MB at a time; they had to add 4 MB blocks of matching speed (usually 70ns or 80ns), creating a complex and expensive upgrade path that defined the technical challenges of 1991-era computing.
