The Virus C represents the third generation of the highly acclaimed Virus virtual analog (VA) hardware synthesizer series. Debuting as the direct successor to the widely popular Virus B, the Virus C completely refreshed the lineup by introducing a faster Motorola DSP processing core, expanded software capabilities, and a refined physical layout designed for professional music producers.

The core internal architecture of the Virus C is fully digital but designed to meticulously model classic analog warmth and saturation. It features an expanded 32-voice polyphony engine and a 16-part multi-timbral layout. Each voice is incredibly robust, built around three main oscillators, one sub-oscillator, and an independent noise generator. Its legendary dual-resonant filter system can be assigned in serial or parallel configurations, offering highly flexible 12dB or 24dB low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and band-reject modes alongside a dedicated analog-style saturation stage.

The physical desktop module retains the highly tactile, hands-on control philosophy of its predecessors, boasting 32 rotary knobs, 35 buttons, and 69 status LEDs. However, it introduces a sleeker, dark charcoal faceplate scheme accented by an upgraded, easy-to-read red backlit LCD interface. The back panel features six independent studio-grade analog outputs, two analog inputs for external signal processing, and a dedicated headphone monitoring jack.

The Per-Channel EQ Revolution: The single biggest architectural upgrade introduced in the Virus C operating system was the implementation of a dedicated 3-band parametric equalizer (EQ) for every single one of its 16 multi-timbral parts. This allowed producers to mix complex, multi-track arrangements directly inside the internal DSP memory without needing external channel strips.

The Moog Emulation: Version 5 of the internal firmware introduced a highly advanced, mathematically modeled 3-pole or 4-pole Moog cascade filter simulation. This option allowed sound designers to bypass the standard Virus multi-mode filters to achieve authentic, vintage West-Coast analog squelches and smooth low-end bass thumps.

The 3-Voice Unison Peak: Thanks to its upgraded Motorola DSP microchip, the Virus C could handle massive, stacked unison patches far more efficiently than the older Virus B. Turning on the signature "Hyper Unison" mode allowed players to stack up to 3 discrete virtual voices per single note, cementing its status as the premier lead synthesizer for early 2000s hard trance, industrial rock, and synthwave music.

The Extended Family: The core Virus C desktop module proved so commercially successful that Access quickly expanded the hardware range into several distinct physical variants. These included the Virus Indigo 2 (a sleek 37-key performance keyboard variant with silver aluminum casing) and the Virus KC (a premium 61-key master workstation keyboard variant).
