VRITRA HEXA is a fantasy shooter spectacle like no other! Soar through the skies with the dragon gods, Indra and Tiamat, as they return to earth and battle the evil forces of Vritra. Choose 3 weapons from an arsenal of 9 devastating items and unleash your boost attack to destroy gigantic enemies. Discover the best weapon mix for each situation. You’ll need these when facing the monstrous bosses that lurk throughout the land. State of the art AI automatically adjusts the difficulty level so that the game is enjoyable for players of all skill levels. Multiple stage routes and endings will have customers coming back for more as they uncover the mystery of the Vritra curse.

Vritra Hexa is a "Director's Cut" version of the game Vritra that was released to PC previously. It is only available in arcades for the exA-Arcadia platform and features numerous additions including new stages, enemies, boss fights, weapons, and a 2-player mode.

It plays much like Dariusburst in being a sidescrolling shoot 'em up with many alien creatures, some of which resemble sea life; It also uses a tree branching level select system like Darius games do.

One difference is that users can change the speed with which they move around the screen with the press of a button, a feature reminiscent of the classic PARSEC on the TI 99/4a.

Power-ups are also different - you pick which ones you'll have access to in stages, and they have special strong attack abilities. Some, like the Black Vajra, are for more advanced players, but once you get the hang of it, you can land some pretty high scores.

In CARAVAN Mode, players are challenged to get the highest score possible within the set amount of time. You can only pick one power-up and the leaderboards are tied to that particular selection.

Users can pick which soundtrack they want when beginning, either the original or the newly Arranged version, which was specially crafted for this game by Fumhito Uekusa.

At the end of each play, regardless the mode you pick, one can scan a QR code to register and share your score to the worldwide leaderboards. Operator locations can setup their location so that the location where the score was achieved is known.

TRIVIA

Vritra Hexa was released on November 3, 2020, being one of the few arcade titles released that year.

The artist for the arcade edition, Tatsuya Ishikawa, originally crafted the art for Namco's Dragon Spirit, another dragon shmup.

While many exA cartridge cases are black, Vritra Hexa is light-blue.

TIPS AND TRICKS

Picking the right "vajra" (power-ups) makes a large difference in how you will perform. It will require multiple playthroughs to determine which fits your style, although by playing in caravan mode, you can learn specifics for a particular vajra.

The black vajra is a little difficult to control but an adept shmup player can find high scoring rewards by using it properly. It portrays giant black swords on the screen which swing around in the opposite direction that you push.

Every vajra has a 'burst' attack feature that is activated with the burst button. Keep in mind to save this up instead of spamming it, as it will become more powerful when you hold back from using it.

The skill required of the vajras gets higher the further to the right they are on the initial selection screen.

Just like Darius, picking a stage that's higher up on the chart is going to be easier than one that is lower. That said, the game still uses AI tracking to determine difficulty on the fly, so if you are really good, then it will be a challenging game regardless the path you select.
