(Madou Monogatari - Hanamaru Daiyouchienji)
Compile's Madou Monogatari takes the famous Puyo Puyo franchise and gives it a new and original twist. No puzzles nor cute ascending Puyos anymore. Madou Monogatari is instead a (simple) 2-D overhead Role Playing Game featuring most of the characters from the series. Arle, the cute little girl so familiar to anyone who played the Puyo Puyo series of game, embarks on a long quest. Everything starts when she receives a mysterious letter - she then goes on a long journey where she will learn magic spells and retrieve eight gems. The game follows a traditional structure with towns where new items and equipment can be found. Turn based fights are randomly triggered during the game. However, unlike traditional RPGs, our character can only uses magic spells such as fireballs, lightening or confusion spells throwing cute dancing flowers at the enemy. Another originality of the game is to not display any health meter - instead, Arle's status can be guessed by just looking at how she moves during battles, and the expression on her face.
