Mammals vary in size from the earth’s largest creatures to animals small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. With such vast differences in size and appearance why are they all called mammals? This Program takes a look at the unique characteristics that distinguish mammals from other animals – the ability to produce milk for their young and the presence of body hair, which serves to protect some mammals from predators and changes in the environment. Viewers can get a closeup look at the special parts that help them adapt to their habitats – the long neck of a giraffe, the trunk of an elephant, the tail of a monkey , and the nostrils of a manatee. Viewers will visit jungles, caves, farms, and ocean as different mammals are compared to and contrasted with their various habitats.
